La expansi\u00f3n fue considerada como \u201cun moderado crecimiento\u201d por la CEPAL, un organismo t\u00e9cnico de las Naciones Unidas con sede en Santiago. En el 2012, la IED hacia Am\u00e9rica Latina y el Caribe creci\u00f3 por tercer a\u00f1o consecutivo y alcanz\u00f3 un nuevo r\u00e9cord de US$174.546 millones.
